Yordan Markov

Yordan Staykov Markov graduated medicine at the Medical Faculty, Sofia, in 1953. He completed his specialization in surgery in 1959, with additional specialization in cardiac surgery in Paris and Moscow. Since 1964 he has worked as a cardiac surgeon in the National Centre for Cardio-vascular Diseases (NCCVD). He obtained a post-graduate degree in medicine and became an associate professor in 1982; in 1985 he became a Doctor of Medicinal Sciences and full professor in cardiac surgery. From 1990 to 1992 he was head of the Chair of Cardiovascular Surgery at NCCVD. He is the author of more than 150 publications in Bulgarian and foreign journals in the field of surgery, experimental and cardiac surgery, and electrocardiostimulation, as well as papers read at international congresses and symposiums. He has patented more then 20 inventions and rationalizations. In 1991 he was elected active member of the New York Academy of Sciences. He is the founder of electrocardiostimulation in Bulgaria. He has trained a large number of specialists in electro-cardio-stimulation and has contributed to the organization of electrocardiostimulation centres in Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, Varna, Pleven, and Veliko Tarnovo. Dr. Markov is a permanent delegate of Bulgaria to the European Workgroup on Electrocardiostimulation at the European Association of Cardiology.
