Adolfo Bioy Casares (1914-1999) ranks by true desert next to Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortazar - Argentine writers, whose names have been registered in world literature. He is the author of collections of short stories and of novels, permeating which are the irony and the fantastic, to reveal the deepest layers of human existence. He is the bearer of numerous literary distinctions; in 1990 he was awarded the Cervantes Prize, which is conferred to the most talented writers in the Spanish language. The crime novels [....] describe mysterious developments, subsequently finding rational explanation and substantiation; in the pages of his book Adolf Bioy Casares successfully resolves one probably more difficult task. He unfolds an odyssey of miracles, which seem not to be admitting of any other explanation than the hallucination or the symbol, and subsequently deciphers them completely with the help of one single fantastic, but not in the least supernatural principle. A rarity, even an extreme rarity in Spanish letters are pieces, the fruit of the rational imagination. [...] The Invention of Morel [...] introduces a new genre in our lands and in our literature. I have discussed all the details of the plot with the author, I reread the piece; it seems no imprecision or exaggeration to call it perfect. Jorge Luis Borges
